Practicing with anything less is equal to shooting hoops with a 8' foot high basket. Here's a real-time experience, "Simulation accuracy is more important than ANYTHING; lest you find yourself attempting to perfect your play, but against casino conditions that don't really exist. That was one of the complaints one of my long-time Boris users had with SAGE - he got real good at beating the software, only to discover the simulation to be flawed. It's a GOOD thing he discovered this BEFORE he made his first big play at Foxwoods in Ct. (Boris has Foxwoods implemented, by the way.)." Here's the reason:
"As I recall, Sage was boasting "real" casino shuffles, but in fact they are only poorly implemented shuffle PIECES. For example, while a software may CLAIM to be able to duplicate a Stutter shuffle or a Straight-thru shuffle, the shuffles are RARELY performed alone. So to duplicate only a PIECE of an overall procedure (Example: Ballys, Mirage, T-I, Monte Carlo and Caesars all use a combination of Plugging, Swapping 1/4-Shoes, Stutter Shuffle and Straight-Thru.) is to not be accurate at all. Also, NO software "casino-washes" the cards properly, except Boris. The old UBE Software (Universal Blackjack Engine - author now deceased, as is the product) had the closest things to a wash by breaking the cards into 8-card packets; close, but no 'cigar'."
How important is Shuffle/Wash to the game? "From the standpoint of the Clump-track methods, the Shuffle/Wash combinations are the KEY to the increased HOLD at the Blackjack tables over the years. If you want a good overview on the subject, read Jerry Patterson's books "Break the Dealer" and "Blackjack: A Winner's Handbook" (90's or 2001 Edition - where he gives Boris a nice plug - page 165). The PBJ (Precision Blackjack Home Study Course) manual talks about this as well."
